JOB SUMMARY

Welcome to Casino Salem—a brand-new destination for entertainment, energy, and high-stakes fun. Just down the road, Chaser’s Poker Room continues to serve as the community’s favorite spot for cards, camaraderie, and good times. Together, these two properties are redefining the local gaming experience.

And now, Churchill Downs, Inc is looking for a savvy, strategic, and solutions-driven Purchasing Manager to keep the back-of-house running as smoothly as the casino floor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Purchasing Manager oversees the procurement of goods and services, along with maintenance and organization of warehouse inventory items.  This position covers both Casino Salem and Chaser's Poker Room.

  • Assist with the hiring, training, development and supervision of Finance and Purchasing teams 
  • Ensure compliance of all state regulations and corporate purchasing policies and procedures 
  • Monitor and track company spending by category and generates related reports 
  • Review requisitions, contacts vendors, and purchases goods based on agreed upon price, quantity and quality, ensuring timely procurement of goods at price/value to meet the needs of each department 
  • Communicate and coordinate with other departments and company management to understand needs as well as anticipate and resolve issues 
  • Research and communicates with existing and potential vendors to cultivate working relationships and develop most advantageous price and service agreements 
  • Review bids for all major purchases to ensure the securing of the most advantageous deal in relation to price, quantity, quality, service level, and delivery schedule 
  • Review inventory and places orders to maintain par levels of inventory which best meet users’ specifications and requirements 
  • Resolve problems with purchases or services as well as discusses defective or unacceptable goods/services with users, vendors, or inspection/quality control personnel to determine source of trouble/problem and appropriate corrective action 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven negotiation skills 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Leadership and management skills with the ability to effectively train others 
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos  
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections 
  • Thorough understanding of materials and supplies used in the company 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications and other computer applications 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required 
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred 
  • Must obtain valid gaming license, where applicable
