America's second oldest horse racing track, the Fair Grounds has been a New Orleans staple since 1852. We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the repair and upkeep of the property including but not limited to barns, grandstand, office buildings, OTB parlor and grounds.

Under the direct supervision of a higher-level operation or maintenance employee, the employee performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair or operation of various installations and facilities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•              Reads work order or receives instructions from supervisor regarding painting.

•              Soothes surfaces and removes old paint from surfaces to prepare surfaces for painting.

•              Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler. Removes fixtures such as pictures and electric switch covers from walls prior to painting.

•              Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.

•              Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and covers surfaces such as baseboards, door frames, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces

               during painting.

•              Paints surface with brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers. Applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.  Simulates wood grain, marble, brick, or tile

               effects.

•              Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.

•              Washes surfaces prior to painting with mildew remover.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be 21 years or older. Must be able to obtain a Racing License from Louisiana Racing Commission. Must have a valid driver's license. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in facilities preferred. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several variables
