Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.
JOB SUMMARY
The Guest Service Clerk process pari-mutuel wagering transactions into totalization system using Tote provide wagering terminals to satisfy State Racing Commission regulations, IRS regulations and Fair Grounds standards. Provides professional services in a manner which meets and exceeds customer and company expectations
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Processes customer wagering transactions and wagering vouchers through a totalizator terminal and certifies accurate wagering transactions as prescribed by state racing commission regulations, IRS regulations and Fair Grounds’ standards.
- Accounts for all monies, vouchers, coupons, etc. are used in performing job duties and reconciles daily cash handling activities to confirm accuracy of cash received at beginning of shift and cash returned at end of shift.
- Ensure compliance with all operational and regulatory requirements.
- Disseminates accurate and real-time racing and wagering information to customers and escalates request for information to superiors when needed.
- Creates and maintains a working environment conductive to positive morale, quality, creativity and teamwork.
- Maintains positive relations with customers and provides service satisfactory to customer and Fair Grounds requirements.
- Anticipates and responds to a wide variety of customer needs and request quickly and efficiently.
- Consults with customers to maintain goodwill and obtain satisfactory outcomes for wagering disputes. Escalate disputes with superiors when appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be 21 years or older. Able to obtain a Racing License from the Louisiana Racing Commission.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Previous cash handling work experience. High school degree or equivalent. Pari-mutuel industry and cash handling experience are desirable but not necessary. Ability to work in a high-volume environment. Excellent verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. Be a self-starter and work with minimum supervision. Ability to work overtime and flexible hours as required including nights, weekends and holidays. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several variables. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common documentation. Ability to perform normal mathematical computations about the implementation of current duties.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Requires contact with gaming patrons on the gaming floor. Constant wrist motion, sit, hear and eye/hand coordination; Frequently speak, read, write, stand, walk, bend and stoop; Occasionally lift, carry, push and pull.
