We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the repair and upkeep of the property including but not limited to barns, grand stand, office buildings, and grounds. Under the direct supervision of a higher level operation or maintenance employee, the employee performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair or operation of various installations and facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Examines vehicle to determine the nature and extent of damage or malfunction.
  • Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear. Removes unit such as engine, transmission, or differential when necessary.
  • Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings.
  • Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps. Rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks.
  • Rewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panel.
  • Relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator.
  • Mends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts.
  • Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
  • Locates trouble in and repairs equipment and vehicles.
  • Maintains equipment in good running order; services and tests automotive equipment, landscape equipment, construction equipment and mechanical apparatus attached to such types of equipment and engines.
  • Replaces defective units or parts of equipment. 

 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be 21 years or older. Must be able to obtain a Louisiana Racing License and have a valid driver's license or State ID. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

At least a high school diploma. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common documentation. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from team members, regulatory agencies or members of the staff. Ability to write and present information to management in a reasonable manner. Ability to perform normal mathematical computations in regards to the implementation of current duties. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several variables.   Three (3) years of experience performing progressively responsible motor vehicle maintenance and repair work is preferred.   Experience working with a variety of motorized equipment ranging from lawn mowers to diesel engines/backhoes, or an equivalent of education and experience.

Office/Casino environment; Subject to outdoor temperature; Exposed to smoke, bright lights and noise at times. The work environment consists of very non-demanding surroundings with a low noise level. Will occasional work in extreme heat or cold conditions.
