JOB SUMMARY

We are currently seeking a Track Superintendent to oversee and maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance of our racing surfaces. This role is instrumental in ensuring the success of our live racing operations and provides an exciting opportunity to work closely with leadership, horsemen, and key stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee daily maintenance and preparation of the main track and training surfaces to ensure consistency, safety, and compliance with industry regulations.

Understand and abide by all regulatory and compliance standards set forth by the Kentucky Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (KHBPA) and the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA).

Supervise track crew and equipment operations, including scheduling, training, and performance management.

Monitor track conditions and respond appropriately to weather, horse traffic, and other environmental factors.

Maintain and calibrate all track maintenance equipment in coordination with the Facilities team.

Collaborate with racing officials, trainers, jockeys, and Company leadership to gather feedback and address concerns promptly.

Participate in planning and execution of special projects such as surface renovations or upgrades.

Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards at all times.

Maintain accurate records of track conditions, maintenance schedules, and equipment logs.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Deep understanding of dirt and turf racing surfaces, including composition, moisture content, and compaction.

Ability to interpret weather data and apply it to track condition decisions.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make real-time decisions under pressure.

Skilled in operating, maintaining, and repairing heavy equipment used in track preparation (e.g., graders, harrows, water trucks).

Working knowledge of regulatory standards and equine safety protocols.

Ability to lead and train seasonal and year-round staff in best practices and safety procedures.

Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail.

Capacity to communicate effectively with diverse groups, including corporate leaders, regulatory officials, horsemen, and front-line staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 5 years of experience in track maintenance, turf management, or a related field; prior experience at a pari-mutuel racetrack is strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of track materials, surface conditions, and equipment used in racetrack maintenance.

Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and early mornings during the racing season.

Valid driver’s license and ability to operate heavy machinery required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Commission (KHRGC) license.
