JOB SUMMARY

Ellis Park Racing & Gaming is a historic and growing entertainment destination in Henderson, Kentucky. The property features a robust mix of live thoroughbred racing, nearly 300 historical racing machines (HRMs), simulcast wagering, a retail sportsbook, dynamic food, and beverage venues. The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is responsible for leading the successful direction, administration, and coordination of all operational activities at Ellis Park Racing & Gaming. This role includes oversight of day-to-day property operations, regulatory compliance, team development, guest satisfaction, and financial performance across HRMs, simulcast, sportsbook, racing, food and beverage, and entertainment operations.

  • Directly accountable for the accuracy and integrity of all property records and reports, ensuring data-driven decision-making, regulatory compliance, and alignment with corporate standards.
  • Provide oversight to department leaders to maintain reporting discipline and operational transparency.
  • Establish performance and profit objectives for short-term and long-term goals.
  • Ensure the quality of management operations in all areas of the property.
  • Oversee the annual strategic planning process, including the development and coordination of operating and capital budgets.
  • Drive departmental performance by challenging leaders to optimize results while effectively controlling costs.
  • Establish and maintain the necessary internal controls, standard operating procedures, and training materials.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the operation are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensure a maximum level of customer service and satisfaction, as well as employee service and satisfaction, throughout the property.
  • Routinely evaluate departmental performance and collaborate with leaders to address and resolve any areas of concern.
  • Ensure departments are appropriately staffed by guiding and supporting leaders in the recruitment, development, evaluation, and management of their teams.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and enforcement of organizational policies and compliance programs by empowering leaders to establish systems that enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness across the property.
  • Provide strategic leadership on state and federal regulatory matters by fostering strong relationships with regulatory agencies and community organizations to uphold the company’s reputation and ensure compliance.
  • Cultivate strategic community partnerships and empower leaders to actively engage in initiatives that strengthen the property's role as a valued community partner.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proven analytical, financial, and strategic thinking capabilities with strong critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire diverse, cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Expertise in data analysis, interpretation, and communication of insights to drive informed decision-making.
  • In-depth knowledge of gaming operations and strong marketing acumen.
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Effective communicator with strong verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
  • Skilled in building relationships and collaborating with senior and executive leadership.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic.
  • Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preference given to degrees in Business, Finance, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience will be considered.
  • Extensive experience at the Director or higher level in gaming operations, with a strong track record of financial accountability and performance management.
  • Demonstrated success in overseeing multiple, complex business units with direct responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and profitability.
  • Deep understanding of financial controls, operational analytics, and revenue optimization in a gaming or hospitality environment.
  • Must meet all suitability requirements for licensure by gaming and/or racing regulatory authorities, including comprehensive background and financial reviews.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Commission (KHRGC) license.
