Churchill Downs Racetrack (“CDRT”), the world’s most legendary racetrack, has been the home of The Kentucky Derby, the longest continually held annual sporting event in the United States, since 1875. Located in Louisville, CDRT features a series of themed race days during Derby Week, including the Kentucky Oaks, and conducts Thoroughbred horse racing during three race meets in the Spring, September and Fall. CDRT is located on 175 acres and has a one-mile dirt track, a 7/8-mile turf track, a stabling area, and provides seating for approximately 60,000 guests. JOB SUMMARY

A Admissions Clerk is one of the most important jobs at Ellis Park as the individual will directly interact with the guest, provide information and intake reservations.  The position includes assignments as a Host/Hostess, Guest Check-in, ticket sales and Admissions/Reservations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consistently report to work on time prepared to perform duties of position

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

    • Assist with ticket sales, guest reservation check-in, monitor reservation seating, a host/hostess and reservations.
    • Introduce and promote each venue in which you will be working. Explain the venue and Ellis Park to each guest and assist them in whatever needs may arise.
    • Stock cabinets and inventory where needed and always keep clean work areas on a daily basis.
    • Distribute promotional items (e.g. coupons, gifts, etc.).
    • Exercise initiative, professionalism and courtesy when handling routine problems with guests and Ellis employees.
    • Generate excitement and provide personal attention to customers.
    • Build relationships and loyalty with guests through sincere and meaningful interactions (e.g., learn guests’ names and preferences; connect with them individually and professionally; smile; make eye contact and verbally greet guests from arrival to the property through departure; and provide fast and friendly service to guests).
    • Be a team player (e.g., work toward team goals and foster a collaborative and positive work environment; put the team first; assist coworkers; treat all coworkers with kindness, courtesy and respect; never engage in negativity; maintain openness to coaching, learning and improving; receptive to change and willingness to embrace challenges with team-spirit).
    • Develop a thorough knowledge of services, amenities, surroundings, providing accurate directions, and information for guest inquiries about promotions and special events.
    • At all times maintain a courteous, positive and professional working relationship with all Ellis Park personnel and the general public (e.g., coworkers, clients and vendors).
    • Work under pressure; maintain regular and punctual attendance including working odd and unusual hours, weekends and holidays.
    • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid license through the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC)

    Computer Equipment, Software, Machinery:

    • Proficient in basic computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Proficient with basic office equipment (e.g., computer, photocopying and faxing).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The job requires the ability to bend over, crouch/stoop, hear, reach overhead, sit, stand, talk, turn/twist, walk, see and repetitive use of hands 51-100 % of the time.
  • The job requires the ability to push/pull 25-50 lbs. 25-50% of the time and 50+lbs. 51-100% of the time.
  • The job requires the ability to carry 1-25 lbs. 51-100% of the time and 25-50+ lbs. 25-50% of the time.
  • The job requires the ability to lift  and slide/transfer 1-25 lbs. 51-100% of the time and 25-50 lbs. 25-50

Essential Mental Demands:

  • The job requires interpreting data, reading and writing 51-100% of the time.
