America's second oldest horse racing track, the Fair Grounds has been a New Orleans staple since 1852. We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for managing the operations of an Off Track Betting (OTB) parlor with a modest level of revenue and a small number of employees (exempt and non-exempt).  This position is charged with the development and growth of employees, sales and profits in the specific areas of food services, video poker and pari-mutuels.  The job includes management of the entire physical facility in accordance with established company standards, policies and procedures.  The incumbent optimizes profits by controlling cost of goods, labor costs and general and overhead expenses.  He or she is responsible for increasing sales by ensuring guest satisfaction and prompt problem resolution.  This position also recruits, trains and develops any OTB Assistant Manager(s) and OTB hourly employees through orientations, training, ongoing feedback, establishing performance expectations and/or goals and by conducting periodic performance reviews.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises any Assistant Manager(s), supervisors (Manager-on-Duty) staff, hourly employees and any contractual or vendor staff or other relationships within the operation to enhance and maintain a customer-focused business.
  • Ensures high quality products and services are provided on a consistent basis within the business plan.
  • Operational planning and implementation of plan to include; budgeting for profit planning, programs for capital investing, sales forecasting and cost standards to maximize profitability.  Compares performance with operating plan and standards and reports and interprets the results for the Directors of OTBs.
  • Responsible for guiding, directing and ensuring customer service and satisfaction.  Successfully resolves and verifies resolution of customer complaints.
  • Continually evaluates business plan, goals and operation for improvements to profitability and changing customer needs.
  • Manages building, infrastructure and facility operations to assure asset protection, enhancement, safety and security.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, coaches and motivates hourly employees; works with FG Human Resources Director, Human Resources Generalist and Directors of OTBs to recruit, hire, train, coach and motivate salaried employees; conducts safety orientations and meetings; assures that all corporate, operations and Human Resources policies and procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for evaluating, assessing and selecting vendors based on capabilities, performance and consistent quality assurance. 
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local and regulatory agency laws and guidelines related to the business and operation.  Maintains positive and cooperative relationships within the community and local leaders to ensure local public support.

 

 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must be an excellent communicator, motivator and team builder
  • Excellent customer service skills, good communication skills, a self starter with the ability to accomplish tasks within reasonable time frames.
  • Ability to learn software related to the operations of the facility.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or marketing preferred
  • Three to five years of related work experience and/or training; one to three years of supervisory and/or management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must obtain video poker license, Louisiana State Racing Commission license and may be required to obtain a Louisiana Responsible Vendor license (alcohol service).
