We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Mutuel Manager has direct management responsibility for the Mutuel Department, excluding the Money Room, which provides professional services in a variety of positions throughout the Fair Grounds facility to satisfy customer inquiries, needs and request in a manner which meets and exceeds customer and company expectations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates all race day activities for front of the house mutuel activities.
- Oversees, motivates and evaluates mutuel employees to achieve individual goals and collectively business unit goals.
- Creates and maintains a working environment conductive to positive morale, quality, creativity and teamwork.
- Advocates an operations structure that best serves customers by ensuring all general office systems, processes and controls are at peak efficiency.
- Accounts for all division loads, cashier and self-service monies, vouchers, coupons, etc. used in performing job duties of mutuel lines and reconciles daily cash handling activities to confirm accuracy of cash received at beginning of shift and cash returned at end of shift.
- Serves as front line liaison in respect to manned and self-service totalizer terminals and systems to identify, examine and resolve issues.
- Ensures compliance with all operational and regulatory requirements.
- Disseminates accurate and real-time information to customers and employees regarding the Fair Grounds’ offerings and escalates request for information to superiors when needed. Educates customers and employees about the offerings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Two years pari-mutuel industry experience with a preference for some supervisory experience. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several variables. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common documentation. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies or members of the staff. Ability to write and present information to management in a reasonable manner. Ability to perform normal mathematical computations in regard to the implementation of current duties.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate degree or two years college.
Must be 21 years or older. Able to obtain a Racing License from the Louisiana Racing Commission.

Constant wrist motion, sit, hear and eye/hand coordination; Frequently speak, read, write, stand, walk, bend and stoop; Occasionally lift, carry, push and pull.
